A bit about comics.
This week has been more than hectic, ergo, I haven’t had much time coming up with constructive and at least somewhat interesting things to write about.
I tried starting a discussion over at The Engine concering webcomics and a how they could possibly become analogus to ye olde artscene, with the advent of ACT-I-VATE, a webcomics ‘band’. If more groups like this rise (and I’ve already noticed a certain DE-ACT-I-VATE has sprung up), it could lead to the formation of a whole ‘scene’ or subculture, in which it is my belief and experience that creativity and innovation prosper.
You don’t need to be Scott McCloud to realize that webcomics are where it’s at. Warren Ellis wrote about it in his latest Ministry column too.
Webcomics today are the zines of yesteryear. They let you explore new grounds while not risking your neck out too much when your putting out crap.
And while a lot of it is crap, there are some true blue diamonds in the rough.
I could write all day about the webcomics I think are worth keeping an eye on.
But I won’t tell. I think it’s part of the fun discovering something new on your own.
Just like a certain Jhonen Vasquez aparantly discovered and recommended this week The Perry Bible Fellowship.
(Yes, I know that was completely cheating, but honestly, everybody should check out PBF, at the very least).
Other than that, I hardly left my apartment this week. I’ve been completely swamped in The Problem of Consciousness, ANOVA, Research Methodology in Social Science, Techno-Utopia and Cyberculture, Wittgenstein & Rulesfollowing, and Order, Chaos, and Complexity.
(Those are course papers and exams, in case you’re wondering).
Also, monday was my birthday, I am now older than dirt.
